Is there an increased concern about safety during Sanfermin? Have there been any issues during past festivals?

Heather, I have tried to answer your questions in today’s post.

We are thinking of arriving into Pamplona around the 11th of July. I know the festival runs until the 14th, but are those last few days as good as the first few? Or do things calm down a bit?
Thanks

No calm at all; don’t forget that weekend starts 11th. Perhaps 13th and 14th are a bit softer.

Any day is Ok to enjoy the festival.
Both 6th and 7th are probably the nicest days, as everybody is fresh and willing to live sanfermin, still you can have a really great time any day from 6th to 14th (do not worry about that).

I have never been to Europe. I am attending a convention in Birmigham, England from 21 June to 24 June.
I figure what the hell, why not go drink some wine in Spain and get chased by some bulls.
I would like to know the real deal – that is what is the best way to get there from England, where should my wife and I stay, where should we eat, etc.
I don’t want to behave like the typical ugly American, so I am looking for some advice – is it OK for an American to do this?

Hello Charles.
Of course it is OK for you to come over and enjoy the festival. It is open to everybody.
First of all you should know that the festival starts on 6th July and finishes on 14th, therefore if you want to come to Pamplona and enjoy the whole thing, I guess you’ll have to modify a little bit your travel schedule.
How to get to Pamplona?
You can take a flight to Madrid and then either take another flight to Pamplona or rent a car and drive all the way to our city (some 400kms).
Othe possibilities are to fly to Biarritz in France or Bilbao in Spain (both cities are some 2-hour drive from Pamplona).
As for the accomodation, you can either book a room in one of the hotels in the city (fares are higher during the festival) or rent a room in a flat or even stay somewhere in the surroundings of the city (I would not recommend that if you plan to drink some wine).
If you definitely decide to come over, we could provide you with some useful tips or web sites to better plan your stay here.

C. Bloomquist.
Just be polite everything will be easy. Don’t dress in a way that attracts attention, leave the gold watch at home. Whatever you do don’t be loud and obtrusive. Loud and obtrusive are ugly.

Good advice.
Regarding the clothes, simply dress with a white T-shirt and jeans or even better white trousers (this way you’ll look like a native).

Hello,
I want to spend a few days at the festival, but then i want to drive to a private, secluded, gorgeous beach with a resort to “dry out”…where would you go???

Hello Jim,
this is a good question.
July and August are peak season in Spain and most of the beaches by the Mediterranean sea are crowded.
Still, if you drive along the northwest coast of Spain, there are plenty of small and nice villages in the regions of Asturias and Galicia.
Weather is ususally nice there, but sun is not fully guaranteed all of the time, as in the South of Spain.
Have a look at the following websites:

Thought you all might be interested in a short video I made about how single girls can meet Euro men at the Running of the Bulls during the Festival of San Fermín…which, as you know, should be renamed the Total Testosterone Fest! My video link is http://tinyurl.com/25fj6l8
